One word described the basketball game between the Seymour Lady Eagles and the Jefferson County Lady Patriots: defense. Jefferson County clamped down on the Lady Eagles, holding them to only 32 points while scoring 54.
It was a key District 2-AAA contest for both teams. The Lady Patriots are at the top of the district with a record of 14-5 and 5-1 while Seymour is 9-6 and 2-4.
The Lady Eagles finished the first quarter only trailing 15-10, but that’s when the Lady Patriot defense kicked in, shutting out the Lady Eagles in the second quarter, taking at 28-10 lead at halftime.
Seymour could only manage eight points in the third quarter and trailed 40-18 going into the fourth.
In the fourth, the Lady Eagles scored 14 points with Aebri Graham hitting a three and two free throws while Maci Pitner added four for a total of 9.
Seymour was led in scoring by Pitner with 13, Graham with eight, Emily Russell and Jolie Gentry with four and Kately Waggoner with three.
