Deputies responded to an armed robbery at Cash Express on Chapman Highway in Seymour on Tuesday afternoon.
When officers responded to the scene, the clerk reported that a person entered the business dressed in black and wearing sunglasses, according to the Sevier County Police Department. The robber brandished a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk complied and gave the robber an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
According to Chief Deputy Jeff McCarter of the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, five police cars and two investigators responded to the scene to lead further investigations.
On Wednesday, police were in pursuit of the armed robbery suspect. The high-speed chase ran down Chapman Highway toward Knoxville and was stopped at South Knox Storage. More than 10 police officers from Sevier County and Knox County were in pursuit of the suspect.
According to Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals, the police force believes the suspect was part of the armed robbery that took place the previous day.
The SCSO has yet to release other information about the pursuit.
