In a controversial piece of writing that has been circulating around Seymour and many other parts of the country a warning about a world-wide gun ban has become the subject of attention.
In the circulated article it is stated, “The Obama administration intends to force gun control and a complete ban on all weapons for U.S. citizens through the signing of international treaties with foreign nations.”
And while the Obama administration has taken steps to increase the level of control across the nation, U.S. Representative Phil Roe (R-TN), who represents Seymour as part of his district, said no such treaty has been officially put forward.
“While there has been some discussion at the U.N. regarding an arms trade treaty, no such treaty has been formally introduced or drafted,” Roe said. “Negotiations have taken place, but countries have been unable to reach enough points of consensus to even draft such a document. If such a treaty was proposed, it would require the approval of two-thirds of the Senate for ratification, and as a member of the House of Representatives, I would not get the chance to vote on such a treaty.”
