The University of Tennessee track & field team matched last season’s total by producing five event wins, including three on the final day, to conclude the Kentucky Invitational at Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday.
“This was a good starting meet for us,” said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country J.J. Clark. “It gives us an early placement for where we are and where we have to go. We’ve got work to do, but plenty of time to get there. We accomplished some good things.”
Senior Lady Vol Nijgia Snapp highlighted the action for the women by defending her 800-meter title. The Mays Landing, N.J., native crossed the line in 2 minutes, 9.68 seconds to take the title, while fellow Lady Vols Kianna Ruff and Alexis Panisse finished the event in third and fourth place in 2:11.19 and 2:11.46, respectively.
“Nijgia is very talented. I’m not surprised she won the 800,” Clark said. “She looked good and hopefully can continue that throughout the season.”
