The Maryville College Cross Country programs, under the direction of Tyson Murphy, had strong showings in their first USA South Cross Country Championships in Pleasant Garden, North Carolina on Saturday morning.

Travis Wilson paced the MC men with a 10th place finish among 49 harriers with his 29:14 time in the 8,000 meter race. David Sturchio finished 14th with a time of 30:18. Additional Maryville runners included: Mathiang Gutnyin (23rd/32:16), Hayden Brown (29th/33:11), Anthony Swartz (33rd/34:42), James McCaffrey (35th/35:27), and Trevor Cutts (36th/35:33).

Wilson and Sturchio were both named to the USA South’s All-Conference second team for their outstanding finishes for the Scots. Mathiang Gutnyin was named to the league’s All-Sportsmanship team.

Christopher Newport claimed the team title behind Raymond Gamache’s 26:26 pace.
