Causing a great disconnect between South Knox and Seymour from Knoxville, the reconstruction of the Henley St. Bridge has hindered area businesses, travel, and recreation. Although the project is currently behind schedule for its completion date of June 30, 2013, the construction is more than half-way complete.
“As of October 17th, the project is 52.1 percent complete,” said TDOT Community Relations Officer Mark Nagi. “The project is currently behind schedule, as demolition of the bridge took longer than expected. However, the contractor believes they can make up the lost time, and deliver the project by the June 30, 2013 deadline.”
To promote the recovery of lost time incentives are in place for early complete and penalties will be assessed to contractor if project is not done on time.
For example, if the construction is finished by Feb. 15 of 2013, the contractor, Britton Bridge, LLC, of Mt. Juliet, TN, will receive an additional $75,000.
