The University of Tennessee track & field program has been recognized for its work in the classroom, as the women’s team and individuals from both squads were honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Lady Vols were once again selected as a USTFCCCA Division I All-Academic Track & Field Team. They earned the honor by producing a cumulative team grade point average of 3.28 for the 2011-12 school year.  A total of 171 women’s squads from around the nation garnered the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better.

The USTFCCCA also announced the women’s and men’s 2012 Division I All-Academic Track & Field Team members. A total of 431 student-athletes representing 148 institutions compose the men’s group, which includes Vol redshirt freshman Matthew Hoty (economics).

The total of women’s All-Academic Track & Field Team members reached 676 this season, representing 171 institutions. Nine Lady Volunteers made the cut, including sophomore Linda Hadfield (economics), sophomore Aslynn Halvorson (kinesiology), junior Jessie Harrison (communication studies), junior Kia Jackson (child and family studies), senior Brittany Jones (social work), senior Chanelle Price (journalism and electronic media), sophomore Kianna Ruff (business), senior Brittany Sheffey (master’s, agriculture leadership) and senior Ellen Wortham (psychology).
