During the dog days of summer when most teenagers are spending their vacation in the pool, movie theaters or the comfort of their air-conditioned homes, the girls of the Seymour High School Lacrosse team are busy honing their skills on the parched grass of the First Baptist Church of Seymour.
Each morning at 10 a.m. the girls file onto the field to work on their stickhandling, shooting, passing and catching. They are doing this knowing that their first game will not be until the end of February 2013.
Although they are listed as a club program, the girls take pride in the fact that they represent Seymour High School.
“We were very fortunate that we had supporters in Coach Householder and Principal Clark when we started,” said Coach Patrick Doyle. “Although this is a not a TSSAA sport yet, it will be one very soon and we hope to have Seymour up and way ahead of the rest when it happens.”
