With the stagnating economy taking a heavy toll on nearly every American, residents are continually looking for ways to tighten their personal budget.

While many people point to national solutions, safety improvements here in Seymour could offer insurance discounts to area residents.

According to Seymour Volunteer Fire Chief Kevin Nunn, improved conditions for the local fire department could lower insurance rates because the area would receive a better Public Protection Classification (PPC) from Insurance Services Office (ISO).

“The PPC is used by insurance companies to develop a yearly cost for insurance for a particular piece of property,” Nunn said. “Not all insurance companies use the ISO rating.”
