With the rapid growth of communication technology over the last decade, emergency responders are now able to improve upon transmission of data.

Members of the Sevier County Emergency Communications District Board recently discussed a new emergency contact technology called Next Generation 911 (NG911).

During the board’s meeting last week, E911 coordinator Vince Loveday presented a staff report which explained the benefits of NG911.

In addition to calling 9-1-1 from a phone, it intends to enable the public to transmit text, images, video and data to the 9-1-1 center which is referred to as a Public Safety Answering Point, or PSAP.
