For Paul Ownby, paint runs as thick as blood. He and his wife Vickie operate a business know for quality and service that started with Paul’s family.
Born in Gatlinburg, Paul was artistic and detail oriented, according to Vickie. He started painting with his father before opening a company with his brother. Then, in he used that experience to start his won business, Paul E. Ownby Painting LLC, in 2000.
“He’s been a painter since he was young,” Vickie said. “He has 29 years of experience.”
Vickie later started managing the office and handling marketing. Their staff includes certified workers who have passed drug and background checks to put people at ease when allowing them into their homes.
“It’s a very personal thing to be in their home,” Vickie said. “If you don’t have that trust, you don’t need to be there.”
Gaining trust has not been an issue, leading to most of their business coming from repeat customers.
“We have very good employees,” Vickie said. “They’re more like family.”
Using environmentally friendly cleaning agents, their EPA certification allows them to paint anything older then 1978, which includes homes and businesses.
They work with hotels and resorts, LeConte Medical Center and the Sevier County School System. They’ve also been the paint service provider for Home Depot in East Tennessee for three years and are the longest running paint contractor for Dollywood with more than 18 years.
Forming relationships with customers is important to them, which is why so many people come back to Paul for interior and exterior work, along with specialized services such as very popular garage floor coatings. For Paul, those relationships are built on quality service.
“His father taught him how to do it right the first time,” Vickie said. “That’s never left him.”
