The Seymour Eagle basketball team finished their 2011 basketball season with a record of 11-17 overall and the number 8 seed in the tough IMAC district postseason tournament.
On paper, that record doesn’t sound overly impressive but considering where Seymour Coach Brian Jessie has brought this program from, it wasn’t bad.
The Eagles bought into Coach Jessie’s system and are currently building on that now.
Coach Jessie laid the foundation his first season and his Eagles have gotten better each year he has been at Seymour.
The Lady Eagles had an outstanding season with 21 wins and 10 losses.
Their region championship dream came to an end in the opening round of the 1-AAA against Science Hill.
Lady Eagles Coach Brandi Stalling is also building the foundation for a championship program after completing her first year as Seymour’s head coach.
Not unlike Coach Jessie, Stallings is also having an even better year this season despite the loss of standout senior Shae Brown to graduation.
The Seymour Eagle wrestling team wrapped up their season placing second in the district (IMAC).  That qualified them for completion in the regional tournament.
The district was held at South-Doyle and the Cherokees were the champions.
Four Eagle wrestlers went on to the state competition; Luke Hall who won the region championship as an individual and received the Outstanding Wrestler Award in the 125 class; Trent Williams who was also the region champion in the 140 pound class; Shane Chipley who was 3rd in the 160 pound class; and Caleb Stoffle who finished 4th in the 135 pound class.
The Eagles finished 7th in the region and 3rd in the IMAC.
As with basketball, the Seymour wrestlers are also having a very successful season.  Led by third year Coach Alex Cate the Eagles are performing better with each coming season.
The Seymour bowling team ended its season with a big win over arch rival Sevier County but then was knocked out of the district tournament by only one point 14-13 by Heritage.
Outstanding bowler Dylan McClure of Seymour moved on the state by qualifying as an individual.
