Animal owners in Seymour will have to drive a little further to get their pets spayed and neutered now that Fix-a-Pet has closed its doors.
Located in Seymour since 2004, Fix-a-Pet, which is part of the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley, closed Dec. 15 in preparation to move to West Knoxville, where it will join Adopt-a-Pet on Kingston Pike.
“To be honest, we really didn’t want to leave Sevier County,” said Dr. Patrick Hackett, president of the Human Society.
He indicated that rising costs force the board of directors to look into ways of saving the organization’s money, which they earn largely through donations and fundraising.
They recently relocated Adopt-a-Pet to larger building that could accommodate both services.
“It made sense to consolidate staff under one roof to save on costs,” he said.
In their time with Sevier County, the Humane Society performed close to 15,000 spays and neuters. Fix-a-Pet will reopen sometime in January alongside its sister store at 6717 Kingston Pike.
