Two of three escaped inmates from the Sevier County Minimum Security Jail Annex have been taken into custody.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. Dec. 8 three inmates, Roy Ray Herron, 24, Calvin Junior McMahan, 45, and Tommy Ray Kitts, 37, overpowered a guard at the Sevier County Minimum Security Jail Annex on Old Knoxville Hwy. in Sevierville, climbed a security fence and fled on foot.
An intense search of the area was immediately conducted using K-9s, helicopters and ground searchers from various law enforcement agencies.
At approximately 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning Roy Ray Herron and Tommy Ray Kitts were taken into custody at River Lodge South Motel in Pigeon Forge after the ongoing investigation revealed their location.
Sheriff’s Officers and members of the U.S. Marshal’s Smoky Mountain Fugitive Task Force have been working around the clock since the trio escaped.
The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office Special Operation Team accompanied by Sheriff’s Detectives and the U.S. Marshals Service went to the motel and had to breach the door to the room where the pair was taken into custody without incident.
The two escapees were the only occupants of the room when officers arrested them.
Herron and Kitts have been charged with escape and will be arraigned before a Judge on that charge.
The Sheriff’s Office has also been assisted by Knoxville Police Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit, Sevierville Police Department and Tennessee Hwy. Patrol during the search.
Authorities are still searching for the third escapee, Calvin Junior McMahan, and anyone who has any information of his whereabouts is asked to call the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office at (865) 453-4668 or their local law enforcement agency.
