The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has announced that the Maryville College Men's and Women's Soccer programs have each been awarded the NSCAA Team Academic Award.
Coach Fernandez's squads were one of only 153 schools from all divisions (789 total institutions) to have both programs earn this distinction. Piedmont College is the only other Great South soccer program to earn this accolade. 218 men's collegiate programs and 571 women's soccer squads have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
This is the 14th consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award won by Coach Fernandez's women's squads. The 2011 award is the 7th national academic award within the men's program, their fifth in a row.
The Lady Scots posted a 3.24 team grade point average. MC had a dozen players that earned All-Great South Academic honors. They include Jordan Chase, Abby Davis, Taylor Emerson, Lauren Evans, Ashley Howarth, Kelsie Kestner, Phoebe Leo, Kelsie Payne, Caitlin Ramsey, Hannah Rector, Mandy Seiler, Windsor Wall.
MC’s men finished the fall season with a 3.13 team grade point average. The Scots also saw twelve players earn Academic All-GSAC honors including: Hunter Acosta, Brian Beckham, Travis Bolton, J. Ridge Carter, Jake Holt, David Large, Chris Metts, Taylor Richardson, John Robertson, Adam Spannbauer, Tom Webster, Corey Willis.
