The Salvation Army has opened a new thrift store in South Knoxville, hoping to provide a closer service to those in the area.
The store opened its doors for a dry run on Oct. 1 in the former Active Pets location. According to Don Link, community relations director for the SA, the goal was to find a venue with a high traffic percentage.
“We’ve had a good reception from the local businesses there,” he said.
The store’s manager, Kim Alkulaghsi, has worked for the SA for more than five years at their previous Chapman location. She praised the decision to open a store much closer to Seymour and Sevierville, since a lot of their business comes from there.
“A lot of customers are saying they’re glad to have a store down this way,” she said.
A grand opening is slated for Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with hot dogs, drinks and a 99 cent sale on clothes and shoes. The SA is very excited to tap into a new area in Knoxville.
“We’re expecting a great run there,” Link said.
The thrift store is located at 6205 Chapman Highway. They are open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
