During the day, Chapman Highway is a bustling road full of travelers, but at night there is an eerie area that becomes haunted with ghosts, witches and other Halloween wonders.
The Smoky Mountain Haunted Forest recently opened up for its sixth year. It is open on Fridays and Saturdays, and will be open on the Sunday and Monday of Halloween weekend.
Groups begin their frightful adventure once the sun has gone down, continuing until 10:30 p.m.
John Soter, creator of the scary forest, says that he tries to change the layout of the forest up every year to keep it fresh and continue scaring people.
“Every year people come to see what we will do next,” Soter said.
The Haunted Forest is not only for fear seekers, but it is also for the faint at heart. Soter explained that they offer a toned down version for children and older people who do not want to be terribly scared. The actors are still in costume, but they do not jump out and scream at participants.
“By having a toned down version we are family oriented, and that is something that most Halloween attractions don’t offer,” Soter said.
Once guests complete the adventure, there is a bonfire where they can roast marshmallows and listen to the screams of other victims.
The Haunted Forest is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. It is located in the area of 2093 Chapman Highway, past White’s School Road and Exxon traveling southbound.
