The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire the night of July 12, but the home could not be saved.
Rural Metro also responded to the blaze that occurred in South Knoxville on Fordtown Road.
SVFD Assistant Chief Corky McCarter indicated that half the structure had already collapsed by the time first responders arrived.
The trailer had only recently been purchased and was unoccupied when the fire started.
McCarter said the remains of a dog were later found under the rubble. The animal had likely become trapped and was too scared to get out.
The location’s remoteness and the heat added to the difficulty of fighting the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
McCarter said the SVFD rarely learns the findings of such cases unless criminal charges are involved.
