BBQ Boot Camp will be held May 17 through 19 at the state-of-the-art Rel Maples Institute of Culinary Arts at Walters State Community College Sevier County Campus.
The boot camp will feature three nights of classes from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. David Hair, former team member of three-time world champion team Jack’s Old South,  will be the featured instructor for the event with two nights of classes featuring everything from backyard grilling to how to prep ribs and pork butt for competition cooking. Chef Catherine Hallman will present the final night’s class – Pastries & Desserts.

“David is a legend on the BBQ competition circuit and he doesn’t hold any of his cooking secrets back,” says event organizer Amanda Marr. “There is so much interest in grilling, BBQing and cooking at home right now. BBQ Boot Camp will give people the opportunity to learn tips and tricks from one of the best BBQ cookers in the world and sweeten things up with one of the best pastry chefs around.” Marr adds that the Pastries and Desserts class has been added because a dessert competition is part of many BBQ cook-offs nationwide.
Sevierville’s seventh annual Bloomin’ BBQ & Bluegrass will take place May 20 to 21, 2011. This family-friendly event will once again bring barbeque cook teams from all over the United States to Sevierville to compete for $15,000 in cash and prizes during the Bush’s Best Tennessee State Championship Cook Off. Rounding out the event is toe-tapping bluegrass music, incredible arts and crafts, kids’ games and the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition honoring Sevierville’s favorite hometown girl, Dolly Parton.
