The Seymour Eagle baseball team remained undefeated playing in the Maryville Daily Times Classic. The win over the William Blount Governors (3-3) by a score of 9-2 makes the Eagle’s record 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the district.
They were coming off a regular season sweep of the Morristown East Hurricanes at home by a score of 10-2.  That record is pretty incredible when you consider they are approaching the 1st third of their season.
Seymour’s freshman pitcher, Hunter Neff made his first start as a varsity pitcher.  He completed the game giving up only one earned run allowing only 4 hits.
The Eagles carried some big bats throughout the game as Logan Jenkins went 2 for 4 with a double and RBI, Cory Clark was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s, Ben Whisler was 2-4 with 2 RBI’s, Logan Sawyer was 3-4 with 2 RBI’s and Chase Turner hit his 2 homerun in two games in a solo shot deep easily clearing the fence.  He hit another one in the opening home game.
In the home win against the Morristown East Hurricanes the outcome was another lopsided win 10-2.
Eagle Chris McCarter was on the mound completing the game and a win with career high 13 strikeouts.
Seymour wasted no time heating up the bats in the first inning as junior Ben Whisler blazed a 2 run double into the outfield. Chris Turner followed in the bottom of the third with an RBI single.
The Hurricanes weren’t just going to lie down and die yet as they scored 2 in the top of the fourth making the score 5-2.
Not to be outdone, the Eagles scored again in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Logan Sawyer to make it 6-2.  Whisler followed with a single and another RBI to make it 7-2.
Turner hit his (at last) 4th homer of the season in the fifth to up the lead to 8-2.  Seymour loaded the bases and then the Hurricane pitcher walked a run home.
A sacrifice fly by Sawyer brought in an Eagle runner making the final score 10-2.
Next up for the Eagles is Cock county at home.
