Maryville College Instructor of Piano Jennifer Olander will present a faculty piano recital at 7:30 p.m., April 4 in the Clayton Center for the Arts’ Harold and Jean Lambert Recital Hall.
The recital is free and open to the public.
The performance will also function as Olander’s first doctoral recital for the University of Memphis, where she is working on her doctor of musical arts degree in collaborative piano performance. She began working on the degree last semester under the instruction of Dr. Victor Asunción.
For the April 4 concert, Olander and fellow pianist Taylor Baldwin will give a duo-piano recital including Mozart's “Sonata in D Major for Two Pianos,” Brahms' “Sonata in F Minor for Two Pianos,” Lutoslawski's “Variations on a Theme by Paganini” and Milhaud's “Scaramouche.”
Olander is a 2005 graduate of Maryville College, where she earned a bachelor of arts in music. While at MC, Olander accompanied and sang with the Maryville College Concert Choir, Community Chorus and select vocal ensemble Off Kilter.
She earned her master of music degree in accompanying from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. During her time at UT, she accompanied the UT Concert Choir, UT Women’s Chorale and UT Chamber Singers. In 2007, she received a scholarship to participate in the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.
Olander is now a full-time faculty member at Maryville College, and she is also the pianist for First Farragut United Methodist Church.
