Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals recently reflected on the accomplishments of his nearly 40 year career.
Seals sat down for an interview with the Herald recently and discussed several topics he set out to accomplish when he was elected Sheriff not long ago.
Though he hasn’t been in office long, he has 39 years experience in Sevier County law enforcement.
At the beginning of his career he spent two years with the Pigeon Forge Police Department before he moved to the sheriff’s office 37 years ago.
He said he feels satisfied with the department’s direction, its future and his part in moving the department forward.
“There has been a lot to do,” Seals said, “and in all decisions foremost in my mind is to serve and protect the people in Sevier County and the officers themselves.”
Seals added that there are a few changes in the department that stand out in his mind.
One change he mentioned is the system wide state-of-the-art communications equipment that provides radios with clear reception and officer safety features.
He also mentioned the training center that has been obtained by the department is designated exclusively for Sevier County which means officers don’t have to share with other departments or work around other departments’ schedules.
Other improvements have be the activation of a minimum security facility to eliminate jail overcrowding and an enhanced training program, enacted by Seals, both for the jail and law enforcement personnel.
“I’ve accomplished most of the things I’ve set out to do and feel good about the safety of our officers and citizens,” Seals said.
