Here in Seymour just about a year ago I had winter on my mind.
I was somewhat predicting a cold winter. Right now I think that we have lost ‘Winter’ from our vocabulary.
Somehow or other I found myself perusing spring seed and plant catalogs and found some tomatoes that I couldn’t even dream of. Who has any idea what this winter will bring, nice I hope.
I was reminded of one of my pet peeves today while driving to Maryville.
A father and young son were walking along side of the road. They got as far to the right as they could but were halted by a ditch, they were already in the weeds.
I had nearly come to a stop and with caution was over the centerline. Just as soon as I passed the dad and son, I was back where I belonged.
Will we ever have roads wide enough for a full sized lane in each direction? Will we ever have at least one paved alongside of these roads?
If the government wants to energize the economy these might be a few good objectives. I want to see safe roads and safe walking paths.
Who is it that is keeping all the progress hidden and unfunded when it comes to new forms of alternative energy?
Try looking up Bloomberg dot com. Of course we do have many ways that we can go and use only what we are harvesting and throwing away.
Our school grounds could have windmill generators in place and solar voltaic cells on the roofs and over the parking spaces and the beat goes on.
Grass is cut but not harvested for about half the year or a little more. The cut grass could be collected by the same equipment which cut it. From there it goes to the compost pile which will go to next spring’s school garden, an example in a sustainable lifestyle.
The yard equipment is gasoline powered and is much more polluting than a full sized auto or pickup truck. This equipment can be converted to propane gas with at not too much expense. Propane produces almost no greenhouse gas and the engine wear is greatly reduced.
A small diesel engine is much more expensive to replace but will probably outlast the body and frame of the equipment on which it is installed.
For a fairly small investment you can be producing your own very clean fuel. A little more work on your part will put you in the ’yellow grease’ fuel business.
To use this it must be filtered several times. This yellow grease fuel will tend to gel in cold weather. Of course you only use it as a diesel fuel replacement.
The bad times don’t seem to be getting better yet. Please remember your family and friends in your prayers. Some of our troops are back home and they weren’t replaced. Please pray for those still over there. At home see what you can do to help out.
