Walters State’s Division of Continuing Education is offering a children’s course in pottery, armed security guard training, and basic and experienced motorcycle rider education.
Pottery Camp for Ages 8 through 13 will be offered July 12 through 23 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This class is an introduction to earthenware clay.
Students will learn the basic techniques in the construction, process and finishing. Students will create and design their own work, including a coil pot a box and a cup. The cost is $99.
Armed Security Guard Course will be July 23 and 24. This course covers the standards required of applicants seeking to obtain a security guard license in Tennessee. The class includes four hours of non-lethal weapons training and eight hours of firearms training, both of which are required to obtain an armed security guard license in Tennessee. The cost of this course is $299.
The permit to carry a firearm course will be offered July 17. This class is a one-day, eight-hour course that meets the state requirement of successfully completing a handgun safety course before applying for a permit. This class is $70. (Please note that the class does not include the permit.)
The basic rider motorcycle education course will be offered July 10 and 11 and July 24 and 25. This course is aimed at beginning riders 15 and older. This course is certified by the Tennessee Motorcycle Rider Education program. Five hours of classroom work are combined with 10 hours of practical riding in a controlled, off-street environment. The cost is $225.
The experienced rider course will be offered July 17. This course is designed for people who know how to ride and want to increase their skills on a motorcycle. Emphasis is placed on advanced riding skills and handling emergency situations. The cost is $95.
A three-wheeler basic rider course is planned July 10 and 11. This course is $250 and includes four hours of classroom instruction and eight hours of on-vehicle instruction. The class is designed to prepare riders for entry into traffic.
