In a District 2-AAA tennis match –up, the Seymour Eagles boys and girls teams had an easy time defeating the Cherokees 8-1.  Domination was the best word to describe the match.
Competition in sports sometimes is a two edged sword; especially in tennis. The Seymour Eagles played against lesser competition in this match and that is not always good for development. According to Seymour Tennis Coach Kristy Wallen,” the ball comes back softer and will sometimes take out the aggression in a player.” However, this was not the case with against Cherokee. Even with lesser competition, the Eagles “kept their aggression and did’t slow their pace” according to Wallen.
Coach Wallen had this to say about the match and the season overall,”We played every child and we played very well. This match gave the new players more opportunity to develop their stroke and technique.
“I am pleased with the season so far. We have stayed unemotional in district matches. We are working hard to get better before post season starts.”
The boys individual results were as follows:  Ashton Hazel 8-0, Jake Ganne won 8-5, Wes Burkhart won 8-4, Ian Norwood won 8-1, Joey Snyder won 8-4 and Corey Combs lost 5-8.
The Seymour boys were perfect in the doubles matches taking all three. The results were as follows: Jake Gann/Ian Norwood won 8-2, Wes Burkhart/Joey Snyder won 8-1 and Aston Hazel/Mark Danby won 8-2.
On the girls’ side, the results were similar with the exception of winning all the singles matches but losing one doubles match.  The individual results were as follows: Andrea Markawitz won 8-0, Ty Wallen won 8-1, Kelsey Fleming won 8-3, Karla Carodegrias won 8-0, Alexis Pierce won 8-1 and Savanna Goodin won 8-3.
The Lady Eagles took 2 out of 3 matches in doubles.  The results were as follows: Andrea Markowitz/Kelsey Fleming won 8-1, Karla Carodegrias/Ty Wallen won 8-2 and Lauren Troutman/Jessica Galyon lost 6-8.
Next up for the Eagles tennis team is Morristown West, the top team in the district on Thursday April 22.
