When it comes to Warriors that fight to complete a mission, most folks think of our military. Friday night at CAK, the Warriors brought in the game ball, via paratrooper Lt. Colonel Keith Hanley as he leaped from an airplane and parachuted to mid-field to greet an on looking packed house in West Knoxville.
Turns out, the only Warriors CAK would need was quarterback Quinn Epperly and RB Marcus Walker that would lead the home team to a 35-6 victory over the young and banged up Seymour Eagles.
Seymour's offense did give some early hope to the well traveled Eagle fans in the first quarter of play when senior tailback Blake Overton took the pigskin on a 60 yard ride to paydirt to give the Eagles a 6-0 lead. The extra point was blocked by a swarming CAK defense to give the Eagles their only lead of the contest.
CAK would later mount two unsuccessful drives courtesy of a stingy Seymour defense. It was the third drive of the first quarter that would start the demise of the Eagles.
The Warriors would dent the scoreboard for the first of many  at the 4:39 mark on a Marcus Walker nine yard carry to the end zone to take its first lead 7-6.
QB Quinn Epperly completed one of his many passes successfully in the next stanza to senior receiver Blake Houser to go up 14-6.
It was then that the CAK defense would step in and provide some scoring of its own when they intercepted the Eagles only to return it for a score and a 21-6 halftime lead.
The talk that first year head coach Jim Moore gave the Eagles at halftime must have had somewhat of an effect on his defense according to the third quarter stats. It was definitely the most productive by all means for Seymour.
The Eagles did control time of possession for the third frame, but one thing they didn't control was the ball. After Stephen Martin just barely missed a 33 yard chip shot field goal, the hopes of a close game began to completely disappear.
Fourth quarter action saw clouds move in as well as a short lived monsoon rain storm that didn't seem to help the Eagle effort either. CAK sent the Seymour faithful to the exists when they found the end zone twice more on a six yard pass to Davis Burton and final Carson Pigram run of 12 yards for a final 35-6 victory.
Couch Moore was not happy. "Our defense didn't play like they were capable of playing. We don't want to give or make any excuses but we got literally ravaged at the line. We have also got to hold onto the ball better offensively if we are going to have a chance at all," Moore continued.
"We just didn't control the ball very well. People say 'throw the ball. throw the ball,' but when we throw the ball good things don't always happen. We need to learn to run the ball, then that opens up doors to throw it."
"CAK spread the field remarkably. You take a young banged up defense like ours vs. their offensive spread and it's just hard to match up with. Our depth issue is really hurting us." Moore concluded.
Coach Moore will go for his first win as the Seymour mentor when they host Cocke County this Thursday at 7:30 pm.
