Townsend, TN – Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center’s Sunset Music Series presents Wild Blue Yonder on Friday, July 31 at 7  pm.
Back by popular demand, Wild Blue Yonder is the only band to perform in all four years since the beginning of the Sunset Music Series at the Heritage Center. The group is one of the finest bluegrass bands to come out of East Tennessee, and in recent years, they have expanded their repertoire into the broader musical frontiers of folk and acoustic Americana. Their recordings have received good reviews in bluegrass publications like Bluegrass Unlimited and Bluegrass Now Magazine, and in February of last year, they performed for several days at the International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis. Band members of Wild Blue Yonder are all seasoned professional musicians and entertainers with a broad range of experience. Melissa Wade (rhythm guitar) and Philip Coward (lead guitar, mandolin) are the co-leaders and vocalists, and their good-natured repartee on stage will remind many old-school country music fans of Bonnie Lou and Buster. Sisters Laura Knight and Cindy Wallace are veterans of many performances at Dollywood, and their blazing fiddle playing adds an extra special crackle to the show. When she’s not fiddling, Knight also adds a touch of percussion, adding further to the group’s edgy, non-traditional sound.
