A man charged with first-degree murder entered a plea of not guilty at his first day in court Monday.

Julio Enrique Fernandez, an undocumented immigrant from Honduras, was extradited to Sevier County Jail earlier this week from Raleigh, N.C. where he was arrested in February. Fernandez has been charged for the November murder of Melissa Foster in the apartment she shared with Fernandez and two others.

Joe Baker, who was appointed to represent Fernandez, entered a plea of not guilty during an arraignment Monday. A date to motion for trial has been set for Sept. 1 with Judge Richard Vance presiding.

Fernandez is being held without bond at the Sevier County Jail.
