Fort Sanders Sevier County Senior Center and Office on Aging is proud to announce the arrival of our new 14-passenger bus. This bus will begin service on Monday, September 25, 2006. Passengers, who must be 60 years of age or older, will pay $5 for the roundtrip service.
The bus will have pre-determined routes each day of the week and will be used for Senior Center activities on Fridays.
Passengers will be picked up along designated routes and must make arrangements for their transportation. The bus service will provide local service to Wal-Mart or K-mart, pharmacy, grocery store, banks and the post office. This service will not accommodate personalized requests such as doctor appointments or beauty salon visits.
The plan is to move people throughout the community as a group. This will allow the opportunity for otherwise homebound senior citizens to travel, shop, handle banking and other personal business for an extremely minimal cost.
ALL PASSENGERS MUST HAVE PRE-SCHEDULED THEIR RIDE. Although there are designated routes, pre-scheduling will allow some flexibility for customizing stops to meet passengers’ requests and needs. It will also allow us to predetermine the most time effective routing for stops that day.
These schedules and routes are tentative at this time. We have and will continue to evaluate the best way to serve the communities in our county.
Routes and schedules are subject to change once the program becomes fully operational.
After service has begun and we have a reference point, we will be better able to assess areas where the needs are the greatest and the service will be utilized to maximum capacity.
We are very excited about this new program and look forward to assisting the seniors of our county. For more information or to schedule a ride please contact Trish @ 865453-8080 ext. 105- Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:00pm.
