Lakeway Information Technology Alliance (LITA) will sponsor the 2nd Annual Information Technology Summit Friday, June 16 at Walters State Community College in Morristown.
Keynote speaker Dr. Kathy White, founder and president of Rural Sourcing Inc., will launch the day-long summit with a morning presentation in the theater of the Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex. The event begins at 8 a.m. and White’s presentation begins at 8:30.
In addition to White’s address, summit attendees may participate in several sessions of information sharing throughout the day at locations in the Dr. Jack Campbell College Center. Educators, business leaders and sponsors will lead the sessions, and sponsors will have the opportunity to display their products and services to summit participants. The event is free and door prizes will be awarded.
White’s expertise is in IT business matters, focusing on redirecting IT jobs to rural areas. She launched her business to compete directly with out-of-country IT outsourcing that is being used by many large computer-related companies to reduce operating costs.
White received the 2005 Innovator Award from the Southern Growth Policy Board, was named one of Forbes magazine’s Top 25 American Businesswomen in 2005 and Top 100 CIOs 1997 and 2001 by Information Week. She serves on the board of directors for Mattel Inc. and Novell Inc. and is a technology adviser to Southern Capitol Ventures.
Last year’s summit was very successful and the event proved so popular in 2005 a larger venue was required for the upcoming version.
“We had about 100 people at last year’s meeting and we held it at the Morristown City Center,” said Rusty Easter, IT Alliance president and IT manager for JTEKT Automotive in Morristown. “We knew it would have to be held somewhere much larger this year. We’re anticipating up to 300 participants to attend the summit.”
All IT professionals and any individuals who rely heavily on the use of computers and technology in their business are welcome to attend. “We are also inviting current IT students or students interested in IT careers…to attend the summit,” he said.
Lakeway IT Alliance was formed “to provide networking opportunities, allow the pooling of IT knowledge and resources, as well as to provide a forum for IT professionals in the Lakeway Area,” according to the group’s Web site at www.lakewayitalliance.com. The goal is to provide a professional platform to promote and present information concerning technology-related communication between IT professionals, educators and students throughout the Lakeway region.
The Alliance plans to serve as a resource center in the recruitment of businesses and the appropriate workforce to the area.
Sponsorships for the summit are $1,000 each and vendor booths are $300 each, and both are available and will help underwrite the costs associated with the summit.
While the summit is free to guests, seating is limited and registration is requested. To register, e-mail summit@lakewayitalliance.com.
