Martha Lawson Mcfarlin, age 71 of Jefferson City, TN passed away at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Survived by daughter, Marion Jean Sams of Morristown; brothers, Lyons Lawson of Michigan, Marion Lawson of Indiana; grandchildren, Brooke Thomas of Dandridge and Jody Sams of Dandridge; several nieces and nephews. Memorial funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2005 at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dale Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 3:30 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the memorial service. Rev. David Salley, 77, Seymour, Tenn.
SEYMOUR, Tenn. – Rev. David William Salley, 77, of Mohawk Court, Seymour, went to be with the Lord late Saturday (Dec. 24, 2005) at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born May 1, 1928 in Kingsport where he spent his early years. He was a member of Meredian Baptist Church, Knoxville, and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict as a commissioned officer.
He will be remembered as an outstanding football player at Dobyns-Bennett High School, going on to play for and graduate from the University of Mississippi.
While in service, David committed his life to full time Christian service. After his discharge he entered Southern Seminary, Louisville, Ky. and received his Bachelor of Divinity in 1957. He served several churches during his ministry, including First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, Tenn., Sullivan Baptist Church, Kingsport, Unaka Baptist Church, Elizabethton, and Clear Springs Baptist Church, Mascot, Tenn. He held many associational offices during his ministry and after retirement was elected pastor emeritus at Clear Springs Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Lena Goodin Salley; sisters, Annis Ketron and Lucille Carr.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Christian Salley; daughters, Janna Hubbs and husband Derrell, Knoxville, Judy Salley, Church Hill; son, Jerry Salley and wife Kellie, Sparta, Tenn.; grandchildren, Nick McMillan, Logan Hubbs, Mitchell, Shane and Tara Salley, Justin Hill, Diana Beeler, and granddaughter and special caregiver, Derrah McMillan; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Iva Jean Hicks, Gate City, Va.; four brothers, his twin J.W. Salley, Edgar Salley, both of Church Hill, Mervin Salley and Don Salley, both of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
We wish to express thanks to St. Marys Hospice for their loving and professional care during David’s illness, and especially to Dudley Waddle and Kathy Roberts for their daily care.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Clear Springs Baptist Church, Mascot, Tenn.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the church with Rev. Dana Fachman and Rev. Charles Parker officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor W. David Salley officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 3/265, Chaplain Joe W. Byrd presiding.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be former deacons serving during his pastorate.

David is gone
A good friend and neighbor, the Rev. David Salley left his earthly home for his eternal home on Christmas eve. While celebrating the exchange of gifts at the family home, David slipped away and received the greatest give of all in his new home.
David didn’t see the beautiful floral arrangement, he didn’t hear all the kind words said nor did he see the tears shed because there are no tears in heaven, no sorrow, no sickness or pain and everybody will be happy there. You fought a good fight and you finished your course.
So long David, until we meet again.
