McGhee Tyson could gain 200 jobs
The Pentagon’s planned base closings could add jobs to Knoxville’s McGhee Tyson Airbase.
Approximately 200 jobs could be brought to the base as a result of the first round of base closings in a decade.
Tennessee as a whole could gain more than 1,000 jobs under the recommendations.
Air Guard stations at Memphis International Airport as well as the Naval Support Activity Midsouth in Millington are also expected to gain jobs.
State tax
collections up
Tax collections for April were nearly $60 million more than estimated. The collections totaled $1.5 billion.
Sales tax collections were up more than five percent in April.
The past nine months of the fiscal year showed $92 million more than the budget estimate.
