The Sevierville Police Department assisted the Tennessee Highway Patrol with a Sobriety Checkpoint on Friday, May 13, 2005 and Saturday, May 14, 2005.The checkpoint was conducted on Highway 441 at the Sevierville City limit, from approximately 11:30PM on Friday until 1:00AM on Saturday. A total of twenty officers from the two agencies participated.The checkpoint resulted in a total of 62 citations being issued for a number of violations, such as invalid registrations, revoked or suspended driver’s licenses, and non-use of seat belts. In addition, the checkpoint led to three DUI charges and four misdemeanor drug charges.Officers estimated that approximately 381 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Law enforcement personnel ultimately searched five of those vehicles.
