Derrick Lee, Ryan Williams, Nick Stice and Danny Dreaden exploded in the 4th quarter of Thursday night’s game and avenged a loss they suffered earlier in the season to the Smoky Bears. The beginning of the game saw both teams answer each others attempts at taking any significant lead. Chris Slay of Seymour and James Feezel of Sevier County were the spotlight players in the first period scoring 10 and 11 points respectively to keep the fans and players on their toes.
The 2nd quarter started off tied at 14 and both teams continued to exchange baskets until they were once again tied at 18 points a piece. It was then that the Eagles gained the momentum as they managed to score 9 points and left the Bears with only 3. The Smoky Bears only managed to hit 1 of 5 free throws the entire period as well.
The 2nd half started with Seymour leading 27-21 and the momentum seemed to shift sides. Sevier County’s Brad Daniels dumped 3 baskets and James Feezel dropped one of his own to tie the game at 29-29 halfway into the 3rd period. But just as fast as they came back Seymour found a way to stop them and their offense stepped up.
The final quarter of the game belonged to Seymour. Looking more like professional players than kids still in High school the Eagles seemed to make every shot that was open to them, and even some that weren’t. They were also on fire from the free throw line and took a huge lead over the Bears because of it.
At the final buzzer it was Seymour who walked out with their heads held high as they took home the victory 65-48.
The Seymour Eagles now head to the 3-AA tournament at Carter High School to face Carter starting 6p.m. on Monday.
