Monday evening, December 20, Jonas Smelcer, Superintendent of Sevier County Roads joyfully told the Sevier County Highway Transportation Committee that the county was the recipient of a $50,000 safety grant from the Federal Government for striping some of the local county highways. This spring will see a lot of roads painted with safety stripes due to the grant, which does not have to be repaid.
The Committee also approved a culvert to be constructed on State Route 339 and a bridge to be constructed over Flatt Creek on State Route 35, both as requested by the Highway Department and the County Mayor.
It was agreed to recommend that the speed limit be changed to 25 MPH on the following roads: Amy Street; Eagle Den Drive; Talon Street; Dora Street; Carter Street; Homestead Drive; and Little Laurel.
