Gary Lundy [Sports columnist for the News Sentinel] touched many of us in the media profession. He was the essence of what a journalist should be — fair, tough, thorough, thoughtful and entertaining. His passing leaves a great void for all of us who knew him. He was a prince of a guy.In memory of Gary, I am starting a fund for his 10-year-old son, Christian, who’s a huge, sports fan and a brilliant little boy.I’ll collect all the money sent in over the next 2-3 weeks and give it to Gary’s wife, Cindy, and tell her to use it any way she wants for Christian. He was a regular with his dad at practices and got to know several of the reporters covering UT.Please make the checks out to the Christian Lundy Fund. My address is 4314 Island Court, Knoxville, TN 37921. Thanks for all your help. We’ll miss Gary dearly, and hopefully this is something that will help keep Christian’s spirits up.Regards,
Chris Low
Editor,
The staff at Jones Cove School would like to take this opportunity to thank our community members, elected officials, staff, and students for making our Pioneer Day at Jones Cove School a success. Our students were able to enjoy a petting zoo, moonwalk, pony rides, carriage rides, and other wonderful activities because of generous donations from elected officials, real estate agencies, and attorneys who sponsored the children’s activities. Our teachers provided additional crafts activities for our children. We had a tremendous response to our silent auction theme baskets that were put together by teachers and their classes. We were alos blessed to have donations from the business community and the arts community in our live auction. Our food court provided delicious hamburgers and hot dogs that had been donated by local retailers. The sweet shop offered wonderful desserts that were donated by local merchants anad community cooks. Our country store provided an opportunity to purchase gifts at very affordable prices. Christmas pictures with Santa were made by staff members and can be enjoyed for years to come. We were able to raise $9,317 that will help finance this years operational costs and will begin a playground fund. Our children need your continued support as we work to provide a quality learning experience and as we strive to complete our playground by this spring.
Our children deserve an outdoor space in which to play. Anyone who wishes to make additional donations that could be applied specifically to our playground fund is encouraged to contact the school
Sincerely
Tammy H. Waters
