Celebration a bang-up success with fireworks
Celebrate Freedom, in Pigeon Forge came to a colorful finale this year with the addition of a gigantic fireworks display that spanned the length of the city. Freedomworks in the Forge, began at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21. The fireworks were set off from multiple locations throughout Pigeon Forge and were visible from nearly anywhere in the city. Freedomworks was synchronized to patriotic music, which was simulcast on Knoxville radio station WIVK-FM 107.7.“Freedomworks was designed to honor all U.S. military personnel who are currently serving around the world,” said Kay Powell, assistant director, Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism “including the local 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment.” The 278th Army reservists are based in Pigeon Forge.Freedomworks in the Forge was produced by Pyro Shows Inc. of Lafollette, Tenn., whose shows have been seen across the nation including July 4 celebrations on the Mall in Washington, D.C.Celebrate Freedom took place Aug. 14-21 in Pigeon Forge. Other event highlights included a concert by the Charlie Daniels Band on Saturday, Aug. 15, at Country Tonite Theatre. Other Celebrate Freedom activities were free including performances of “Celebrate Freedom! The Musical” at the Louise Mandrell Theater, Aug. 17-21.
