If you know anything about Bonnaroo, you know it’s one of our times greatest music festivals. You can expect a bit of everything ranging from traffic and international food, hippies, to some of the most talented artists.
Upon entering you might get a little intimidated, but don’t let anxiety keep you down. Bonnaroo is an event that will make an impression on your memory to last a life time. It’s where people of all ages and backgrounds can indulge in a magical weekend full of entertainment of all kinds.
A Comedy Tent, stilt walkers, gigantic bobble heads, six stages, the Bonnaroo market, the cinema tent and much more keep the estimated one hundred thousand people pumped up and ready to party. The mornings are so hot there were some passing out from heat exhaustion coming out of the port-a-potties, but with so much going on it didn’t much matter.
The music started at noon with about eighty different music genres on six different stages. Friday, the most well-known artists were Ani DiFranco, Bob Dylan, The String Cheese Incident, and Dave Matthews and Friends. Saturday you could see Government Mule, The Dead, Primus, and Ween. Sunday, along with the annual SuperJam (where many of the performers get together and have a jam session), Moe, David Byrne, and Trey Anastasio concluded the weekend.
The grass streets weaving through all ninety-eight of the camping areas were crowded with people and shops selling a little bit of everything. Although you would want to come prepared, you could always find whatever you were looking for. Shops and vendors ranged from tent-cooked food, ice, and handmade crafts.
You couldn\’t help but notice that people got somewhat nervous upon entering the gates, but that was immediately counteracted the minute they started mingling. Everyone was so friendly and outgoing. One of the things that was most impressive was that you didn’t see a single person get cross with anyone else, no fights or arguments.
By the end of the weekend, you leave with several new friends that you can plan on seeing again next year.
Carrie from Birmingham expressed her purpose in coming to Bonnaroo by saying, “Originally I came to see Dave, but this has been something that I enjoy and that I have committed myself to for now on. It definitely has been an original and personally touching adventure”.
If you can tolerate the heat and rain, you can have a great time at Bonnaroo. Surviving the days seems effortless when you know what’s in store for your evening. The many different cultures and activities are well worth the trip. An absolutely magical weekend is to be expected.
