Learning center kicks off summer reading

The Sevierville Sylvan learning Center is sponsoring five summer reading kickoff events at area public libraries during the month of June.
These events featuring Book Adventure, the free online reading incentive program, are designed to generate enthusiasm and interest in reading by using prizes to reward students for their literary success.
The Summer Reading Kickoff Parties will feature Rex Reader and Bailey Bookmark, the Book Adventure mascots as well as drawings for several prizes.
Prevent a stroke

Stroke screenings are being offered June 11 as part of an effort to prevent the deadly condition, which is ranked the third leading killer in the world.
Life Line Screening will be on hand at Celebration! Church at 9 a.m. at 11212 Chapman Highway to perform the screenings.
The Screenings are fast, painless, and low cost. They involve the use of ultrasound technology, and scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, aortic aneurysms, and hardening of the arteries in the legs.
Also offered for men and women is a bone density screening to asses the risk of osteoporosis.
Each screening takes ten minutes or less to complete. A complete vascular package costs only $99. The osteoporosis screening can be included for an additional $26 dollars for a total of $125.
To schedule an appointment at the screening or for more information, call 1-800-643-6188. Pre-registration is required.
