Game of the Month: Intellivison
Lives! Playstation 2
To be honest, this was sort of a last-ditch effort. But unlike some of my other last-ditch efforts (escaping lawn work by, well, digging a hole to China) I was pleasantly surprised with how this turned out. This is just a collection of some of the best games from back in the 1977-1987 era. The presentation is really interesting, you’re in a generic pizza joint with bad radio playing and you’re just scoping around the arcade games. All games are organized nicely (by sports, arcade, space, etc.) so you don’t have to cycle through a bunch of them. So what to expect? Long-time classic Space Armada (Space Invaders?), a really cool (for what it is) dungeon dweller, a fish simulator, for that case a FROG simulator, sports of all kinds, and even games that didn’t get released! So why are these games good? Well, you can see pixels a mile away, there is no music to speak of, and some games last less than 10 minutes. These are games in the purest form: Challenge and fun. You could be 4 years old or 44, you could play for either 20 minutes or 6 hours and you could enjoy it! Give it a shot, it ain’t bad at all.

Game Gadgets for the Month: d_skin
Please don’t tell me this the first time someone thought of this. The d_skin (as its called) is a protective “skin” that goes around a CD of any kind (music, software, games, dvds) and covers it from dust, scratches and dents, while being able to read it at the same time! It just adds a micro-thin layer of plastic around the game, so that the information won’t be damaged if you drop it, spill something on it, lose it in a seat cushion, the list goes on. An absolute MUST-HAVE for anyone who uses CDs of any kind. A 5-pack goes for about $5.99, so they’re not really cheap. They will, however, save you money in the long run, because you won’t have to replace a playstation game you can’t find anymore (true story) or have to spend hundreds of dollars on Windows XP again! Check out the d_skin website at www.d-skin.com. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Question of the Month: Where are my socks? Oh-right there on my feet, as well they should be. Ok, game question. Metroid Zero for GBA is actually a remake of what game?Last month’s question: Who is Shigeru Miyamoto (Shig-guh-roo My-ya-mah-to) and why does he have about 64,000,000 fans worldwide?

Answer: His name, Shigeru Miyamoto, his games: Anything with the word Mario on it, Starfox, Pikmin, The Legend of Zelda, a recent Pac Man game, Metroid Donkey Kong-he invented Donkey Kong! We don’t know what planet this man came from, or why he does what he does, but his games, yesterday’s and today’s, stand out in excellence. He’s a good man, that Shig Moto. A good man indeed.
