A total of six first place finishes was more than enough to propel the Seymour boys track squad to win a four-team meet at Heritage High School Friday evening.
The Lady Eagle tracksters collected three top finishes to finish second behind the host Lady Mountaineers in the girls’ competition.
The Eagles outdistanced Heritage (67), Sevier County (41) and Pigeon Forge (34). Heritage won the girls’ competition with a score of 87.5. Seymour (54) was second, Pigeon Forge (44.5) was third and Sevier County (43) was fourth.
The Eagles had first place finishes from Jimmy Odham (18.1) in the 110 hurdles; and the 400 relay team of Caleb Moore, Chris Smith, Chris Thomas and Aaron Lee (46.03). Michael Bozzone finished first in the 1600 relay. Brandon Silvers won the 800 and Scott Thomas took the discus competition. Anthony Serafine won the triple jump (44’4.25) and the team of C. Thomas, Ethan Kegley, Jeremy White and Silvers won the 3200 relay (9.42.4).
The team of Moore, C. Smith, Serefine and Lee finished second in the 800-relay (1:37) and Ryan Williamson, Duncan Smith, Steven McAward and C. Thomas finished runners up in the 1600 relay.
Williamson was second in the long jump (17’10), Kegley was second in the 800 run and Michael Serafine was second in the triple jump.
Five different Eagles placed third in their respective competitions.
The Lady Eagles had two individual representatives and a relay team, earn a first place score.
Chastin Webb, Holly Kegley, Erin Inman and Rachel Stooksbury combined to take top honors in the 80- relay. Jessi Peterson took first in the high jump (4’10) and Gina Ownby (30’8.5) won the shot competition.
Stephanie Moore finished second in the 3200 run (12.39.9) and Stooksbury was second in the 110 hurdles (17.78). The team of Webb, Sarah Troutman, Inman and Kegley (56.06) was second in the 400 relay, and Amy Deremer, Brandi Troutt, Brittany Galyon and Bethany Wolfe (13:14.2) finished second in the 3200 relay.
Stooksbury was second in the long jump (14’4”) and triple jump (28’). Chelsea Harrell was second in the shot (28’2”) and Moore was runner up in the 800 run (2:36.12).
Sevier Co. won three events on the track. Tyler Woodruff set a new school record for the bears in the 400 run (50.75). Woodruff later won the 200 in a time of 22.97 seconds. SCHS distance runner Jon Hancock took the two-mile event.
Ali Carney too the long distance run for the Bearettes with a time of 12:39.Carney also took the top spot in the half-mile. Margaret Ownby was Sevier County’s only first place in the field, taking the discus by throwing past 73 feet.
Ashleigh tarwater wrapped up two first place finishes in the sprints winning the 200 and 400.
Pigeon Forge had a tough day as the young program who just got their own track six months ago. JoJo Ryan sprinted out to a top spot for the Tigers. Ryan won the 100 meters in a time of 11.1 seconds. Shane Centerbury was once again impressive with the shot put, taking the honors with athrow of 43 feet and 8 inches.
The lady Tigers got a first place finish from their two mile relay team. Rocio Armenta, Katie Brackins, Amber Ward and Megan Cox teamed up to finish in 12:58.
