Fifteen juniors and seniors from The King’s Academy, along with four adult chaperones left Knoxville Airport early Friday morning, February 27, to spend eight days in California on their annual class trip.
The academy has a decades old tradition of offering an extensive educational and recreational trip to its junior and senior classes each year. The students pay for their trip, but the school offers a variety of fund raising activities to assure anyone who wants to go on the trip may do so, regardless of their ability to pay.
The group landed in San Francisco. After spending two days touring the major attractions in the Bay Area, the students and their sponsors traveled by coach to Los Angeles, stopping for dinner in Santa Barbara.
San Francisco attractions included Chinatown, Twin Peaks, Lombard Street, Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf and Alcatraz Island.
In Los Angeles, stops include Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, Farmers Market, Hollywood, Venice Beach and Disneyland.
After three days in the greater Los Angeles area, they travel to San Diego to see Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, Old Town and Sea World. The group flies home from San Diego Friday, March 5.
One of the educational components of the trip is a requirement for the students to keep a daily journal, reflecting on the experiences of each day.
In previous years, the academy has sent students to Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Washington, New York and Quebec.
