The citizens and businesses of Seymour came together on the Fourth of July to show their support for the country, the community, and each other on July 4th at Seymour Community Recreational Park on Chapman Highway.
The celebration, whose major sponsors included Tennessee Graphics, The Herald Newspapers, Big Mama’s Karaoke Café, Villa Francesca, and The Sevier County Utility District, was heavily attended and outstripped even last year’s event, with over six thousand in attendance based on estimates from park officials.
The vendor spread was very impressive, rivaling that of the Pigeon Forge festival, which is eleven years senior to the Seymour gala.
Joseph and Michele Karl, organizers of the event were pleased with the turnout. “Last year was pretty impressive, but this year we had a lot more vendors and things for attendees to do. It was a really great celebration,” Michele said.
“We are proud to offer the businesses and citizens of Seymour a chance to show their pride and participate in an event like this. The overwhelming response has shown that the residents of our fine community are ready and willing to support local businesses, each other, and our great country,” said Joseph Karl.
The celebration, which featured music and karaoke as well as tons of food and activities and a professional fireworks display, was the second annual for Seymour. Last year’s event attracted about 5000 revelers to the community park, with about a 25% increase in attendance this year.
“There can be no doubt that Seymour has accepted this event as their very own,” said David Grimes, Managing Editor for The Herald Newspapers. “This event overshadows older, more established celebrations held by much larger communities. What makes it special is how Seymour has embraced it, and the citizens and businesses have done themselves proud once again.”
New to the event this year was a large selection of available food for the attendees, with choices ranging from snacks to full meals. Pizza, Italian dishes, barbeque, burgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings were all part of the spread. Activities and games for the kids were abundant, including face painting, a coloring contest with prizes, and the Burger King Whopper Hopper, as well as a giant slide and the parks own recreation equipment.
