The Holy Smokes smoke shop in Seymour was burglarized early Wednesday morning by a thief who smashed in a window, apparently with a manhole cover.
The perpetrator escaped with an undetermined amount of stock but no cash, according to Cindy Richmond, a manager at the Holy Smokes location at Macon Crossing in Seymour.
Sevier County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the alarm call around 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning July 2 within minutes, Cindy told The Herald, leading them to believe that the perpetrator was only in the store for a little more than a minute.
Damage to the store was minimal, with only the glass to be replaced. The owner of the store, Tom Quinn of Seymour, was alerted by the alarm company as well and arrived in the early morning hours to find a manhole cover and shattered glass all over the front entryway of the store.
No one was injured in the burglary, and Sevier County Sheriff’s Department is investigating. Anyone with information on the case is urged to call the SCSD at 453-4668.
