Chris McCarty, 8th grade history teacher is sponsoring The National History Day Competition at Seymour Middle. The National History Competition gives students a chance to show their talents by putting together a presentation and to present “A moment in history.” Three students are looking for help from local veterans. Ethan Kegley, Bo Crawford, and Justin Kirby are putting together a video presentation as well as a power point presentation. Their project is due in February at school level with the winners going on to higher competitions at the district level in Knoxville, then to the regionals in Memphis in March. Any students making the final cut will have the opportunity to go to the National completion in Maryland.
This will be the first time that the Seymour Middle School has entered the competition.
“My Dad was in the Vietnam War and from what he has told me, that time sounds very interesting. Some veterans do not want to talk about that time in their life, but we really need to know about and understand that important time in our History,” stated student Bo Crawford.
If you are a Vietnam Veteran and would like to participate, please contact the Seymour Middle School at 573-9320.
