Lockdown ordered
T.V.A. officials ordered a lock down at the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant near Chattanooga last Friday afternoon. Reports say the lockdown occurred after a contract employee with a proper badge tripped a security detection device and then ran into the plant. The employee was found. T.V.A. officials were not available for comment about the employee, but did say that the incident didn’t pose a threat to the workers in the plant
or the general public.

School’s out
Students at Heritage High School will get a four-week vacation until Oct. 14. The reason is the mold. Workers removed mold that has made dozens of students ill. 237 of nearly 1,500 students were out of school with 73 citing a reaction to the mold as the reason. The cleanup could cost as much as $1 million. Other schools in the area are
to be tested for the mold.

No moonshine
The man promoting a plan to allow the making of moonshine won’t get his chance to bring the issue to voters. He missed a deadline for placing the question on the Nov. 5 ballot. Richard Weatherly had sent out 1,500 petition letters Saturday, a day after the deadline for
petitions to be filed.

Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City was named one of the “Best Educational Values in the State” by U.S. News and World Report. Six other schools were also named. They include Belmont University, Chattanooga, Christian Brothers University, Freed-Hardeman University,
Milligan College and U.T.
