Well once again rain was in the forecast for Saturday the 20th of April. It was overcast at Galaxy 411 Raceway, but as time came to open the gates to the pit, the clouds moved out and it was a beautiful day. The Cars rolled thru the gates, and lined up as practice was getting ready to start. Then it was time to qualify, each car came out one by one, ran their qualifying lap, and waited to see just where they would be lined up at race time. When you hear the National Anthem, you know ITS TIME, all the drivers do one quick check over their cars and then try to relax a little bit, before their race.
First up the Baby Grands, #35 Clifford Pugh ran away with this one, from start to finish, he stayed in the lead. The #96 Jackie Cox Came across in second, #115 Tyler Brown third, and the hard fought battle for 4th was won by #6 Tony Cox, 5th was #8 Dale Wilson.
The crowd was speechless after #9 Mike Campbell in the Pro-Challenge division, took the green flag and was coming back around to complete the 1st lap. The rear of his car spun around in turn 4 hit the wall, the car then went air borne spun and flipped completely over, landing back on all four wheels. Mike was ok. After the race was restarted #18 Mark Dyer pulled away from the pack and never looked back. Mark took his second win at Galaxy, #5 Marty Arender 2nd, #5 Ronnie McCarty 3rd, #71 Doug Cochran, #33 Gary Barrier 5th.
The Galaxy Chargers came out next and as they were to complete the 1st lap a rim on the right front of #22 Jake Ginter’s car broke and the tire went bouncing down the front straight away. On the restart #32 Travis Sands took the lead for a couple of laps and then #B3 Brad Seagle took the lead away, and picked up his second win. #32 Travis Sands took 2nd, #29 Rick Ballenger took 3rd but only by a bumper, #3 Ronnie Bibbinscame in 4th and #19 John Reed was 5th.
The Legends had a three way fight for the lead between #51 C.D Chandler, #64 Greg Turner, and #17 Shane Roberts, who has won the last two races. At the Checkered flag #51 C.D Chandler had the horse power and pulled off the win, #17 Shane Roberts took 2nd, #64 Greg Turner and Gillespie Motorsports finished third, 4th went to #57 Bruce Wachter, 5th #19 Janice Humble.
The Street Stocks came thundering out onto the track, and like last week had a great race all these cars seem very evenly matched, and all stay very close to each other. #3 Alton Satterfield hung on to first place this week, with #40 Shannon Giles on his tail, #22 Scott Robinson was 3rd, #11 Stacey Castle, #77 Jay Swecker 5th.
The Classic Cars had some excitement of their own. #27 David Appling coming out of turn 2, broke a gas line and burst into flames, but thankfully it only lasted for a few seconds, he climbed out and was fine.
The race was restarted and #18 Gary Kelley went straight back to the spot he is so used to having, 1st place. Thats just where he finished, for the 3rd week in a row. #18 Gary Kelley takes first place, # 28 Fred McArthur 2nd, #83 Brett Baer 3rd, #33 Brian Ball 4th, and 5th went to #6 Rocky Estes.
The Modified Minis took the track and had some fender benders also, But #9 Jason hold on and took the win for the 2nd week in a row, behind him were #44 John Byers, # 17 Steve Owens, #18R Danny Tullock, and #8 Rick Shepard.
The 4cyl-Late Model were ready to go this week, but a 2nd lap wreck sent #17 Tim Rucker to the pits, #29 Randy Ogle crossed the line first, but a review later showed that Randy had gone to the pits for problem and he was actually a lap down. So #24 Todd Pierce takes his first win of the year, with #01 David Flynn in 2nd, #3 Byron Ward 3rd, #29 Randy Ogle 4th and 5th went to #39 Jason Carter.
The Wedge Cars put on another great race this week, on the first lap three cars got tangled up on the front straight away, sending all three to the pit, #4 Jeremy Broome, #23 Bobby Cowan, and #58 Billy Brimer but none of them returned to the race. This race started where last weeks left off, with 107.7 Scott Dyke in the lead, but soon after the start Scott had car problems and #24 Larry Sullivan happily took his spot, and Larry held that spot the whole way, #8 Adam Beeler was 2nd, #J22 Jeff Nugent took 3rd, 4th went to #83 Larry Gibson and #22 Scott King finished 5th. Next Friday and Saturday the 27th and 28th is the Scale Car Nationals, along with all divisions on Saturday.
