This issue of the Smoky Mountain Herald that you are holding is the first ever. We hope it is the first of very many more to come. You probably picked this one up for free at the newsstand or perhaps from a friend or relative, and you’re looking around and trying to find our what we’re all about. You’ve come to the right place.
The Smoky Mountain Herald is the first spinoff of the hugely popular Seymour Herald. Though first published in January of 2002, The Seymour Herald has been met with such phenomenal enthusiasm that the publishers, Joseph S. and Michele Karl, felt that the time was right to expand. Not wishing to lose the tight focus that the Seymour Herald brought to the community, they felt that rather than try to increase the Herald’s coverage area, they would retain the original paper’s mission and instead launch a new enterprise to serve the communities of Sevierville, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge. That instrument is the newspaper you are reading right now.
The purpose of The Smoky Mountain Herald is to give the community great news and features without losing the hometown charm that has brought us such success in the past. We feel confident that we will be able to achieve this goal, and hope that you’ll join with us in our journey through what we expect to be a long line of interesting and informative publications.
