Alf Newman poses with a cake made especially for his 86th birthday by his niece Elizabeth Emery of Alabama.

On February 14, 2007, Alf Newman, lifetime resident and well-known Sevier County businessman, celebrated his 86th birthday with family and friends at the corporate offices of Tennessee State Bank in Pigeon Forge.
A 30 year board member with Tennessee State Bank, Mr. Newman is proud to say he has only missed 1 meeting.
Many residents know Mr. Newman through two very popular businesses he owned and operated in Sevier County. Newman’s Taxi Service, which he and his late brother John owned and operated as well as Newman’s Cafe which he owned until 1989 and is now the home of Taulbee’s Restaurant.
He was also one of the investors responsible for developing Grandview Estates in Kodak located off of Highway 66 with his good friend and previous TSB Board member Lonas Ayers, who passed away in 1994.
Sound business decisions are just one facet to Mr. Newman. He is also a man of deep faith, a dedicated husband, and an honored citizen. In 1935 his faith led him to Alder Branch Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon. In 1956, he married Jean McMahan Newman and they look forward to making trips to Florida together this year. And in 2002, he was named Citizen of the Year by the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Newman would like to thank all of his friends and family for his birthday well wishes.
